Challenges Faced by Teachers in Teaching Science Process Skills to Seventh Grade Students at SMP/MTs

Abstract

This research aims to identify the challenges faced by seventh-grade students at MTs Terpadu Mardlatillah during laboratory practice. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method, revealing facts about the implementation of science process skills training in the lab. Data collection techniques include triangulation using questionnaires, documentation, and interviews, with the seventh-grade science teacher as the subject. The research focuses on eight indicators of science process skills; formulating problems, formulating hypotheses, identifying variables, planning experiments, conducting experiments, presenting data, drawing conclusions, and communicating. The results show that there are four obstacles out of eight indicators of science process skills: students have difficulty determining variables; the teacher does not present experimental setup images; students struggle with data analysis; students find it challenging to draw conclusions; and students have difficulty presenting experimental results. If these obstacles are not addressed immediately, the science process skills of the seventh-grade students will continue to lag behind.
