Planning Design of Metallographic Polishing Machine Using Double Disc

Metallographic polishing machine is used to smooth and flatten metal specimens until they have a mirror like finish, allowing their microstructure to be carefully observed under a metallographic test microscope. To construct such a machine, machine planning and product design are required. In planning design of the metallographic polishing machine, the Boothroyd Dewhurst method was employed as an analysis of the assembly process, to calculate the Design for Assembly (DFA) index in handling and combining each part of the machine, and obtain the design efficiency value based on the difficulty level and usage value of each assembly step. The final design of the two-disk polishing machine, with different rotation speeds driven by an electric motor, will undergo load simulation to determine the strength of the machine frame. This design planning process resulted in the final design of a two-disk polishing machine with different rotation speeds and powered by electric motor.
