Abstract

PT BMI has an iron storage warehouse located in front of the production area. The problem faced is that material is stored randomly.
The impact from a technical perspective is the operator need estimate 60 minutes to find required materials. That caused waste time and energy and can reduce productivity about 42%. Meanwhile, from an administrative perspective, material report is not in accordance that leads delay in material procurement. The aim of this research is to provide warehouse layout suggestion to produce an optimal layout. This research uses a class-based storage method to determine material classification. After re-arrange the layout, known that proposed layout reach efficiency about 28,4% due to reducing the storage area approximate ​​76,22 m2, from 268,64 m2 to 192,42 m2. Materials were stored on shelfs, it consist 16 shelfs for storing Class A, 11 shelfs for storing Class B and 5 shelfs for storing Class C.
