In this digital era, the process of exchanging messages is done digitally. One of the media for exchanging messages that are widely used by Indonesian people is Whatsapp. Quoted by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, 83% of the 171 million internet users use Whatsapp. Users come from children to the elderly. Whatsapp is the main media for relatives who are separated by distance so they can stay in touch. The elderly stutter about existing technological advances, and this creates several problems of its own including interpersonal barriers, structural barriers, and functional barriers. This study aims to determine the problems of using Whatsapp among the elderly as a medium for exchanging messages in the digital era. This study uses qualitative research methods and data collection techniques through in-depth interviews. This study uses Alfred Schutz's phenomenological theory to analyze the focus of the issues raised.
