Abstract

Betel leaf (Piper Betle L) has antibacterial properties. This study aims to analyze the benefits of betel leaf extract on suture wound infection. This study was experimental with a completely randomized design (CRD) using 25 mice exposed to Staphylococcus aureus bacteria which were then divided into 5 groups based on the intervention given, namely K+ (gentamicin antibiotics), K- (no intervention given), P1 (5% extract), P2 (10% extract), and P3 (15% extract). Observation of the infection healing process was carried out for 8 days and the research instrument used the REEDA scale. The results showed that there was an effect of betel leaf extract on the healing process of suture wound infection. The most effective dose was 15% extract which showed a REEDA score of 0 on the eighth day. Betel leaf extract has potential as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus.
