The Challenges Faced by Teachers in Teaching Speaking in State Junior High Schools at Sidoarjo

This study aims to investigate many kind of challenges that is faced by teacher in teaching speaking English in state junior high school at Sidoarjo. Descriptive-qualitative research methodology was used in this study. Teachers in junior high schools are the focus of the study. In order to cross-check the interview data, the researcher conducted an observation class in addition to an interview with an English teacher. The interactive model of analysis from Miles and Huberman was the data analysis method used in this study. These include gathering data, condensing data, presenting data, and forming conclusions. The results of this research are students can not participate actively in conversation, speaks slowly and takes too long to compose utterances, lack of vocabulary, poor grammar, and limited opportunities outside of class to practice. This finding should aid English teachers in developing practical strategies for encouraging their students to speak English.
