Abstract

Learning independence refers to students’ ability to regulate their own learning processes and is essential for academic success. However, many students still show low levels of learning independence due to various internal factors and the family environment, including authoritative parenting and emotional intelligence. This study examines the influence of authoritative parenting and emotional intelligence on learning independence. A quantitative correlational method with proportionate stratified random sampling was used, involving 227 students from a population of 650. Data were collected through Likert-scale instruments adapted from Baumrind (authoritative parenting), Goleman (emotional intelligence), and a modified scale from Rosita Sari for learning independence. The instruments demonstrated adequate reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.852, 0.853, and 0.870 respectively. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression after classical assumption testing. Results show that both authoritative parenting and emotional intelligence significantly and positively influence learning independence, with emotional intelligence contributing more strongly.
