Abstract

Self-injury is an intentional act of self-harm without suicidal intent and is often used as a coping mechanism for emotional distress. In Islamic communities, this behavior is strongly stigmatized due to social and religious values, which can hinder individuals from seeking help. Although self-injury has been widely studied, research focusing on young adults from broken-home families within Islamic contexts remains limited. Family background plays a significant role in emotional resilience, yet the influence of emotional regulation, social support, and coping strategies in this group is still underexplored. This study examines the relationship between emotional regulation, family background, and self-injury tendencies among young adults from Islamic broken-home families. The results show that poor emotional regulation and lack of family support increase the risk of self-injury, while effective coping strategies and positive social interactions are linked to better emotional well-being.
