The Influence of Democratic Parenting Styles on School Readiness in Preschool Children

Abstract

School readiness is an important aspect in helping children adapt to the demands of formal education. This can be seen in environmental factors that are thought to play a role in children's school readiness, namely parenting styles, particularly democratic parenting styles that emphasise warmth, two-way communication, and clear boundaries. During the pre-school years, it is very important to build the best foundation for growth and development before entering formal education. This study aims to determine the effect of democratic parenting on school readiness in preschool children aged 5–6 years. This study uses a quantitative approach with 63 preschool children in the Sidoarjo area as research subjects. This study shows that democratic parenting has a positive and significant effect on school readiness. Therefore, this study is expected to serve as a reference for parents and educators in supporting children's school readiness before entering formal education
