This study analyzes the implementation of maharah kitabah learning at SMP Muhammadiyah 9 Boarding School Tanggulangin, Sidoarjo. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with Arabic teachers, student questionnaires, and analysis of learning documents. The findings show that Arabic writing instruction is still dominated by a structural-grammatical approach emphasizing grammar and vocabulary, while communicative aspects remain limited. The main challenges include limited learning time, diverse student abilities and motivation, lack of interactive media, and teachers’ limited mastery of effective writing strategies. Learning methods are mostly conventional, and assessment focuses more on accuracy than creativity and coherence. The study recommends more interactive learning methods, teacher training, digital media use, and comprehensive writing assessment.
