This study examines mother tongue interference in the Arabic writing skills of students in the Arabic Language Education Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research analyzes the forms of interference and their effects on the accuracy and effectiveness of Arabic writing. Data were collected from documentation of fourth semester students’ kitabah assignments and interviews with students and lecturers, and were analyzed through content analysis. The findings reveal interference in lexical, grammatical, morphological, semantic, and orthographic aspects, with morphological and semantic errors occurring most frequently. These interferences cause structural deviations, inappropriate diction, and shifts in meaning, which significantly reduce the quality of students’ writing. The study concludes that mother tongue interference influences students’ writing performance and highlights the need to strengthen kitabah learning through guided practice, habituation to thinking in Arabic, and mastery of nahwu and sharaf.
