The student exchange program between the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) and Sultan Zainal Abidin University (UniSZA) plays a key role in improving students’ academic and linguistic competencies in cross-cultural learning contexts. This study examines the types of culture shock faced by students, their adaptation strategies, and the implications for academic growth in Ma’ani Studies. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological perspective, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings show that students experience culture shock related to multilingual settings, teaching variations, digital connectivity, and classroom dynamics. Adaptation strategies include group discussions, peer tutoring, learning technologies, and institutional support. These efforts help students adjust, increase metacognitive awareness, strengthen language skills, and boost learning motivation. Overall, the adaptation process encourages evaluation of learning styles and discipline. The study confirms that the program enhances cross-cultural academic readiness and supports more adaptive policy development.
