Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding Polypropylene (PP) plastic waste to a 60/70 penetration asphalt mixture on Marshall characteristics including stability, flow, density, and air voids. The background of this study is based on the need to improve the quality of road pavements as well as efforts to utilize plastic waste that is difficult to decompose to be more useful. The research method uses laboratory testing with varying levels of PP plastic ore in the asphalt mixture, namely 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% of the asphalt weight. Samples were made and tested using Marshall Test equipment according to SNI 06-2489-2018 standards. The results showed that the addition of PP plastic ore significantly affected the stability and strength values of the mixture. The stability value increased with the addition of PP content until it reached an optimal condition at a certain level before finally decreasing performance.
