Abstract

Home industries in Indonesia face intense competition and limited resources, requiring improved production efficiency. AR-RAHMAN SME, a mass-produced cap manufacturer, experienced waste in the embroidery process due to machine breakdowns, causing delays and product defects. By applying Lean Manufacturing methods—Value Stream Mapping (VSM), VALSAT, and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)—they identified inefficiencies and improved the production process. As a result, waste such as waiting time, product defects, and repeated inspections was successfully reduced, especially in embroidery. Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE) increased from 92% to nearly 97%, value-added time rose from 114,000 seconds to 119,933 seconds, and output grew from 300 to 316 pieces. These improvements demonstrate that Lean methods effectively reduce waste, boost productivity, and enhance production quality in local industries or MSMEs.
