Abstract

Social media functions not only as a communication tool but also as a space of representation where individuals express interests, build identities, and strengthen personal branding, including spiritual practices. This study analyzes how symbolism and visual narratives on Sara Wijayanto’s Instagram account (@sarawijayanto) construct meanings of psychic trance in the digital era. Using Stuart Hall’s representation theory and Roland Barthes’ semiotics, the research examines denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings in selected posts throughout 2024. A qualitative content analysis approach was employed, focusing on visual elements such as lighting, body expressions, and image composition, as well as captions that support narrative construction. Findings reveal that symbolic and visual narratives play a crucial role in shaping audiences’ transcendental experiences by blending spiritual traditions with digital practices. Furthermore, the content reinforces Sara Wijayanto’s personal branding as a modern spiritual medium while fostering dialogue and audience engagement on spirituality in social media.
