Abstract

This study investigates the bystander effect (passive bystander, defender, probully roles) in bullying among students at SMP Negeri at Mojokerto. Using a descriptive design, 251 students from 7th, 8th, and 9th grade were choosen using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data was collected with an adapted School Bystander Behavior Scale (SBBS). Analysis combined the Rasch model for assessing instrument quality, students’s responses and abilities, with the addition of comparative tests to identify attitude tendencies. Results indicate students generally tend to act as defenders. However, comparative testing revealed 8th grade students exhibit a significantly higher tendency to act as probullies compared to 7th and 9th graders.
