Labor Union Communication Strategy in Socializing the Importance of Unionizing for Employees (Case Study: PT Indal Steel Pipe in Gresik Regency)

This study examines the communication strategies of the labor union at PT Indal Steel Pipe, Gresik, in promoting unionization among employees. Using a descriptive qualitative case study, data were gathered through interviews, observations, and documentation. Findings show that the union employs interpersonal communication, internal media, and dialogue-based education to raise awareness and encourage participation. Transparency, management support, and trust in union leadership serve as key enablers, while limited employee understanding and fear of negative stigma remain obstacles. The study highlights the union’s pivotal role in advocating workers’ rights and recommends enhancing communication capacity and organizational literacy to strengthen employee involvement.
