Exploration of the Values of the Muhammadiyah Student Association Trilogy in Leadership Practice

The Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) is an Islamic student organization that plays a crucial role in producing individuals of integrity through a cadre development process based on the IMM Trilogy, consisting of religious, intellectual, and student values. This trilogy serves as the ideological foundation intended to shape the mindset, attitudes, and leadership practices of IMM members. However, social dynamics and changing times present challenges in maintaining the consistent application of these values. This study aims to describe members’ understanding of the IMM Trilogy, analyze the prevailing leadership practices, and explain their interrelation within the cadre development process.This research employs a qualitative method with an phenomenology approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with four key informants representing various organizational levels, participant observation during cadre training activities such as Darul Arqam, and document analysis of the IMM Cadre Development System (SPI). The data were analyzed descriptively through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, validated using source and technique triangulation.
The findings reveal that the IMM Trilogy is understood as a primary guideline shaping members’ moral integrity, critical reasoning, and social commitment. Leadership practices within IMM are generally democratic, collective, and participatory, reflecting the internalization of the Trilogy within organizational life. The strong link between the IMM Trilogy and leadership practices confirms that the success of cadre development depends on the consistent application of values and the organization’s adaptability to emerging challenges. The study concludes that IMM holds significant potential to continue producing leaders of integrity, knowledge, and social commitment if cadre development is implemented earnestly and sustainably based on trilogy and cadreritation associations systems.
