Analysis of the Quality of Junior High School Science Question Items Using the Test Analysis Program (TAP) Application for Motion and Force Material

This study analyzed the quality of multiple-choice test items in Grade VII science on “Motion and Force” using parameters of validity, reliability, difficulty level, discriminating power, distractor effectiveness, and their relation to Bloom’s Taxonomy. Employing a quantitative descriptive-analytic method, 40 items and responses from 52 students were examined using the Test Analysis Program (TAP) version 14.7.4. Results showed that 95% of the items were valid (r ≥ 0.30) with very high reliability (KR-20 = 0.929; split-half = 0.925). The items were dominated by easy questions (82.5%), though most had good discriminating power (60%) and 90% of distractors were effective. The cognitive level distribution was concentrated at C4 (analyzing), with few at C5 (evaluating) and none at C6 (creating). A positive correlation was found between discriminating power and validity. Overall, the items largely met quality standards, though greater variation in difficulty and inclusion of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) are needed.
