Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' perceptions of the reading corner literacy program in fostering critical reasoning character at Muhammadiyah 1 Gempol Elementary School. This qualitative phenomenological study involved 25 students with data obtained through interviews, observations, documentation, and questionnaires, and analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model with triangulation of sources and methods. The results show that the reading corner provides interesting and easily accessible reading materials that encourage students' interest in reading and diligent learning attitudes. Moreover, this program fosters critical reasoning character through three indicators: reading habits accompanied by the ability to draw conclusions based on evidence, the ability to identify problems from reading, and analyze cause-and-effect relationships logically and analytically. Thus, the reading corner is proven to play an important role not only in improving literacy, but also in forming the foundation of critical thinking in elementary school students.
