Using the VDI 2222 Method as a Basis for Designing a Plastic Waste Shredding Machine

Abstract

This study aims to design a plastic waste shredding machine that is safe for the operator without reducing the operator's visibility, as well as providing innovation so that the V-blet's service life can be longer. Garbage accumulation is still a problem in Indonesia, A plastic waste shredding machine is one of the important tools to help decompose accumulated waste. In this study, the machine designed is a shredder type. The research method used in the study is Verein Deutcher Ingenicure (VDI) 2222. The total dimensions of this machine are Height = 967mm, Length = 837mm, and width 583mm. From the calculation results, this machine requires a total torque of 280.8 Nm at 35 rpm, thus requiring a driving power of 1.15 HP. The researcher used a gearmotor with a power of 2 HP so that it is sufficient to be used as a machine drive.
