Abstract

Speaking is one of the most complex language skills as it requires the ability to express ideas clearly and engage in meaningful communication. However, many students still struggle due to limited exposure to authentic language materials and lack of practice. This study investigates the effectiveness of using English movies as a learning medium to improve students’ speaking skills, particularly in pronunciation, vocabulary, and fluency. The research was conducted at SMK Negeri 2 Buduran with 38 students from class X-1 Accounting. A quantitative pre-experimental design was employed, consisting of a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The findings reveal a significant improvement in students’ speaking performance, with the average pre-test score of 69.47 rising to 90.26 in the post-test, an increase of 20.79 points. These results indicate that movies are an effective tool to enhance speaking skills, boost students’ motivation, and create a more engaging and enjoyable English learning environment.
