Correlation Between Levels of Heavy Metal Lead (Pb) and Cadmium (Cd) and Description of Hemoglobin Levels in Batik Industry Workers in Jetis, Sidoarjo

Kampung Batik Jetis in Sidoarjo is a batik production center that uses synthetic dyes such as naphtol, indigosol,
and rapid, which may contain heavy metals like lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd). Exposure to these metals can negatively
impact the hematological system, particularly by reducing hemoglobin (Hb) levels. This study aimed to determine the
relationship between Pb and Cd levels and hemoglobin levels in batik workers. A cross-sectional quantitative
approach was used with 19 respondents selected through total sampling. Blood samples were analyzed using Atomic
Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) for Pb and Cd, and hematology analyzer for Hb. The results showed average
levels of Pb at 3.37 µg/dL, Cd at 4.45 ng/mL, and Hb at 13.82 g/dL. Pearson correlation analysis showed a negative
correlation between Pb and Hb (r = -0.447; p = 0.055), and negative correlation between Cd and Hb (r = -0.629; p
= 0.004).
