Abstract

The arena learning model, adapted from the area learning model, is based on children’s interests and aims to enhance early childhood cognitive abilities. This study at TK Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Bebekan used a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. Learning begins with stimuli, such as videos or storytelling, to introduce themes, followed by planned activities in each arena with three play densities supporting six intelligence aspects, including cognitive skills. After receiving instructions, children freely choose their preferred arena, fostering independent cognitive development. Supporting factors include teachers with IT skills, adequate facilities, a spacious school yard, complete classroom equipment, and varied loose parts. Inhibiting factors involve teachers’ limited understanding of the Merdeka Curriculum, children imitating peers, restricted playtime, cancellation of activities during PHBI events, difficulty in focusing, and the extensive preparation of loose parts. Overall, the arena learning model effectively supports cognitive growth despite some implementation challenges.
