Abstract

This study investigates the effect of using board games to improve seventh-grade students’ English daily activity expression using the simple present tense. Many students struggle with vocabulary, fluency, and confidence when speaking English. To address this, a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was conducted with 23 students from  junior high school in Sidoarjo. The research involved a pre-test, three treatment sessions using board games, and a post-test. Students were assessed on vocabulary, grammar, understanding, fluency, and pronunciation. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test in SPSS. Results showed a significant improvement in students’ speaking scores, increasing from a mean of 67 in the pre-test to 81 in the post-test, with a significance value of 0.000. This indicates that board games positively impact students’ mastery of English daily activity expression. Additionally, board games foster a fun and relaxed learning environment, boosting students’ confidence and motivation to speak English.
