Abstract

The integration of gamified digital tools in education has been widely recognized for enhancing students’ engagement and motivation. However, the use of such tools, particularly Kahoot, for improving specific linguistic skills like vocabulary mastery at the elementary level remains underexplored. This study investigates the effect of Kahoot on vocabulary acquisition among fourth-grade students in Indonesia. A true experimental design involved 36 students divided into two groups: the experimental group used Kahoot, while the control group received instruction through textbooks, worksheets, and whiteboard explanations. Both groups completed identical pre-tests and post-tests to measure vocabulary improvement. The intervention was conducted over several sessions with curriculum-based Kahoot quizzes. Results showed that both groups improved, but the Kahoot group demonstrated significantly greater gains. Statistical analysis using paired and independent samples t-tests confirmed the difference (p = 0.012). The findings suggest that Kahoot enhances not only engagement but also vocabulary development in early language learning.
