Abstract

This study aimed to examine whether the U-Dictionary application could improve students’ English pronunciation through narrative story materials. It used a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design in a pre-experimental format. The participants were 24 ninth-grade students from SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Tanggulangin, chosen based on academic considerations. The research instrument was a pronunciation test given before and after treatment. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22. The average pretest score was 50.00, increasing to 58.13 in the posttest. A paired sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.047, which is below 0.05, indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. These results support Ha and reject Ho. The findings indicate that the U-Dictionary application plays an important role in improving students’ pronunciation, especially in learning through narrative story materials, and can be used by teachers as an alternative medium for integrating technology into language learning.
