Abstract

Online media, especially YouTube, has become a mainstream platform for gathering and sharing information globally. This study investigated the benefits of a popular YouTube educational channel, Linguamarina, by analyzing viewers' comments. Using a qualitative research design, researchers employed thematic analysis on comments from February to May 2025. Five aspects of video content were analyzed: speaking, listening, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. The findings provide empirical evidence that YouTube channels like Linguamarina are credible, alternative learning entities. They successfully bridge the gap between formal education and flexible, contextual learning. Consistent with the Active Audience theory, viewers actively participate in conversations, correct each other, and exchange learning strategies in the comment sections. The study suggests that future research could include comparative studies across different channels or use mixed methods, such as combining comment analysis with surveys or interviews, to gain a more comprehensive understanding.
