Vocabulary mastery is essential in English language learning, yet many students struggle due to monotonous teaching methods that fail to engage them emotionally and cognitively. While various strategies have been applied, junior high schools still lack innovative and enjoyable approaches. This study investigates the effectiveness of the storytelling method in improving the vocabulary mastery of 7th-grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Tulangan. Using a quantitative pre-experimental design, the research involved three stages: pre-test, storytelling-based treatment, and post-test. Since the data were not normally distributed, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test was used for analysis. The results showed a significant improvement in post-test scores (p = 0.001), indicating that storytelling effectively enhances vocabulary learning. This method created a contextual and enjoyable learning atmosphere, boosting students’ motivation and engagement. The findings suggest that storytelling can serve as an effective, interactive alternative for improving vocabulary mastery in junior high school English education.
