Strategies in Facing Educational Challenges in Islamic Boarding Schools

Strategi dalam Menghadapi Tantangan Pendidikan di Pondok Pesantren

Abstract

This study analyzes the challenges faced by students at Pondok Pesantren Karangasem Lamongan and the strategies they employ to overcome them. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected from seven students, three teachers, and one head of the pesantren through interviews, observation, and document analysis. Thematic analysis revealed that santri face challenges in academic, social, emotional, and health aspects. To address these, they adopt problem-focused strategies such as forming study groups, creating personal schedules, maintaining hygiene, and engaging in pesantren activities. Emotion-focused strategies include worship, self-reflection, reading, building emotional support networks, and positive thinking. These coping mechanisms reflect the santri's resilience in dealing with the demands of pesantren life. The findings highlight the importance of pesantren in supporting positive coping strategies and strengthening the role of ustadz as mentors in emotional and social development.
