Parenting Self-Efficacy Psychoeducation for Parents in Handling Children with Special Needs

Parents play a vital role in raising children, especially those with special needs (CWSN) who require specific parenting approaches. Parenting self-efficacy—parents’ belief in their ability to care for their children—significantly influences parenting success. Higher self-efficacy is linked to more effective support for child development. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 27 parents of 4th to 6th grade students at SDN Wedoro Klurak, Sidoarjo. Data was collected using a 15-item questionnaire measuring understanding of self-efficacy. The T-test analysis showed a pretest score of 11.926, which increased to 14.308 after psychoeducation, indicating a significant difference. The findings suggest that psychoeducation can improve the parenting self-efficacy of parents of CWSN. By enhancing their understanding of effective parenting strategies, parents can gain greater confidence, reduce stress, and build stronger relationships with their children. This approach supports more positive parenting outcomes and child development.
