Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze misconceptions that occur in elementary school students in understanding the concept of zero (0) as part of an integer. The research method used is a qualitative case study. with research subjects of grade V students at Lemah Putro 3 Elementary School in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. Data were collected through tests, interviews, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it was found that students experienced misconceptions in: defining zero, ordering zero with other numbers on the number line, understanding the properties of zero, comparing zero with other numbers, and addition and subtraction operations of zero. These findings indicate that students' understanding of zero is still very weak. This study provides recommendations for educators to develop more effective learning strategies in overcoming students' misconceptions related to zero.
