Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) in improving joint attention skills in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Joint attention, essential for social interaction and communication, is often underdeveloped in children with ASD. The research focused on a 7-year-old ASD student at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Candi Labschool UMSIDA, using a Single-Case Experimental Design (A-B-A). The CCPT intervention was conducted over two sessions within two weeks, with joint attention assessed before and after. Results indicate a significant improvement in Responding to Joint Attention (RJA), particularly in following visual cues and guided objects. However, Initiating Joint Attention (IJA), such as pointing or returning objects, requires further support. Overall, CCPT proves to be an effective method for enhancing joint attention in children with ASD. Nonetheless, future studies involving larger sample sizes and extended durations are recommended to validate and generalize the findings.
