Test of Antibacterial Effectiveness of Avocado Extract Nanoparticles (Persea americana Mill) Against Propionibacterium acne Growth

Nanoparticles are solid colloidal particles with diameter ranging 1-1000 nm. The ionic gelation technique is a simple and effective method for nanoparticle formation. One of the plants can be alternative herbal medicine is avocado (Persea americana Mill). This study aims to compare the effectiveness of avocado extract with avocado extract nanoparticles in inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acne using the diffusion method with three repetitions. This research was carried out from August-October 2024. The results showed that the inhibition zones of avocado extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% were 16.50 mm, 13.26 mm, and 32.27 mm. Meanwhile, the nanoparticle avocado extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% produced the same inhibition zone of 6 mm. In the statistical analysis using the nonparametric Friedman test showed a value (p<0.05) is 0,000, which showed a significant difference between the inhibition zone of avocado extract and nanoparticles of avocado extract.
