The Effect of Inquiry Learning Model on Student’s Conceptual Understanding

Abstract

Conventional learning reduces students ability to understand knowledge, so a more effective learning structure is needed such as an inquiry learning model to foster students ability to understand knowledge. The purpose of the research is to examine the effect of inquiry learning model on students concept understanding. The research method used a quantitative method of non-equivalent control group involving fifth grade students in one of the elementary school in Sidoarjo. The research instrument used a concept understanding test. Normality test and t-test were used to asses the data. The result proved that students concept understanding improved significantly by considering between the mean scores of the experimental and control class (22.94 and 5.59). The t-test resulted in a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05 which shows the difference in mean scores between the experimental and control class. Thus the inquiry learning model gives an influence on students concept understanding.
