Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium commonly found on various parts of the human body. Some variants of Staphylococcus aureus are resistant to ß-lactam and methicillin antibiotics; are known as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The aim of this study is to screen for MRSA in pus samples from patients with tissue wounds. This study employs a descriptive analysis design. The research was conducted from March to June 2024 at the Microbiology Laboratory of Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital. A total of 44 pus samples were used, with the inclusion criteria being pus samples from inpatients with purulent wounds. The samples were then cultured on Blood Agar Plates (BAP) and subjected to Gram staining to identify the bacterial type. Catalase and coagulase tests were performed to determine the species, followed by antibiotic susceptibility testing using the Vitek 2 compact system. The results of this study revealed a 50% colonization rate of MRSA bacteria.
