The study aims to describe the effect of the PBL model on student learning outcomes in the cognitive domain on the human respiratory system material at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Gempol. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental with a Pretest-Postest Nonequivalent Control Design. The random sampling technique was applied to select two classes randomly, namely the experimental class using the Problem Based Learning model and the control class using the conventional learning model. The results of data analysis using the Independent Sample T-Test obtained a significance value of 0.04 (<0.05) so that it can be stated that there is a significant effect of the Problem Based Learning model on students' cognitive learning outcomes. Suggestions for further research are the need for an observation sheet instrument that can be used to strengthen the results of observation activities that have been carried out by observers.
