Detection of Bacteria from Sputum Samples in Patients Diagnosed with Pneumonia and Non-Pneumonia using Semiautomatic Microbiology Tools

Pneumonia is an acute respiratory infection that affects the lung tissue (Alveoli). Pneumonia can be caused by a variety of microorganisms, including microbial organisms, protozoa, and viral infections. Pneumonia attacks around 450 million people every year. This research uses a cross-sectional approach and is descriptive in nature. The data used in this research was obtained from patient medical records via a database. The research was conducted in March – May 2024 at the Microbiology Laboratory Installation at Bangil Regional Hospital. The total samples used were 43 samples, consisting of 35 samples of patient sputum with the inclusion criteria for sputum diagnosed as pneumonia and 8 samples as controls. The samples were examined using a Mindray TDR 300B semiautomatic culture tool and the growth of Raoultella ornithinolytica bacteria was found as a saprophytic bacteria which sometimes contaminated bronchial lavage or respiratory tract samples.
