Abstract

Amoebiasis is a disease caused by protozoa, with Entamoeba histolytica being the most common culprit. This illness affects the nutritional status of individuals by causing issues such as intestinal bleeding, loss of appetite, bloody diarrhea, and reduced absorption of essential nutrients. Gastrointestinal parasites, like EH, can harm the human body by feeding on host tissues, including blood, resulting in protein and iron loss. A study conducted at Saiful Anwar Hospital in East Java aimed to compare the values of MCV, MCH, and hemoglobin in patients with EH-induced diarrhea versus those with other infections. The research involved 60 samples taken from December 2023 to May 2024, showing significant differences in anisocytosis and hypochromasia between EH infection and non-EH infection cases. Anisocytosis is an early indicator of iron deficiency and anemia. In conclusion, treating EH infection requires attention to related conditions like anisocytosis and hypochromasia.
