Abstract

Social media and citizen journalism play an important role in the context of democracy in Indonesia. An in-depth analysis of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE) and the Press Law (UU Press) is key to understanding the impact of social media and citizen journalism from a democratic perspective. The aim of this research is to determine the position of social media as an pillar of democracy in Indonesia. This research uses a normative legal approach to assess the impact of social media on democracy and identify the challenges and opportunities faced by democratic countries. The results of the analysis highlight the need for legal reform to address the role of social media in building an inclusive democratic society.
