Abstract

This research explores the effect of variations in Sansevieria fiber length on the tensile and compressive strength of polymer matrix composites. Sansevieria natural reinforcing material because of its high strength and elasticity. Tensile and compressive tests were carried out in accordance with ASTM D-638 and ASTM D-695 standards. Variations in fiber length used are 1 cm, 2 cm, 3 cm, 4 cm and 5 cm. The results show that the specimen with a fiber length of 4 cm has the highest tensile strength of 42.18 MPa, while the specimen with a fiber length of 2 cm has the lowest tensile strength of 33.24 MPa. The highest strain of 11.84% was obtained from 1 cm fibers, while the lowest strain of 9.22% was found in 2 cm and 3 cm fibers. Increasing fiber length generally increases the compressive strength of the composite, with the highest value at 5 cm fibers.
