Ergonomic Testing and Performance Test on Non-Folding Electric Wheelchairs

Abstract

Electric wheelchairs play a crucial role in enhancing mobility for individuals with disabilities. However, ensuring their comfort and efficiency requires comprehensive ergonomic and performance testing. This research employs the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) method to analyze user body posture and tests the wheelchair's propulsion and steering systems. Anthropometric testing reveals discrepancies between user body dimensions and the wheelchair's design, while RULA analysis indicates posture adjustments are necessary. Performance tests show the wheelchair handles various terrains well, though improvements are needed in obstacle clearance and maximum speed capabilities. Conclusions drawn from this study provide recommendations for the development of enhanced electric wheelchairs, aiming to improve user comfort and functionality.
