This study aims to determine the effect of the make a match model on the initial reading ability of students. The independent variable in this study is the make a match model and the dependent variable is the ability to read the beginning. This study used the Pretest One Group Posttest design. The analysis methods used by researchers are normality test, homogeneity test and t test. The results of data calculations show that the initial reading ability of grade 1 students in Kalisampurno 1 State Primary School has improved. The average score of the pretest results of 66.61 and the average value of the posttest results of 79.04 indicate that there is an influence of the make a match model on the initial reading ability of students. In hypothesis testing, the value of t is obtained > t table or (5,362>1,720).
