Correlation of Widal Titer With The Number of Leukocytes, Lymphocytes and Neutrophils in Typhoid Fever Patients

Typhoid fever, caused by Salmonella typhi, often presents with abnormal leukocyte, lymphocyte, and neutrophil counts. Diagnosis typically involves the Widal test using the slide method and automatic hematology analyzers for blood cell counts. This cross-sectional study at ‘Aisyiyah Siti Fatimah Tulangan Hospital aimed to explore correlations between titer widal and leukocyte, lymphocyte, and neutrophil counts in 30 typhoid fever patients during April 2024. Statistical analysis using SPSS revealed a significant negative correlation (p=0.014; r=-0.444) between titer widal and leukocyte counts, indicating higher titers associated with lower leukocyte levels. Conversely, no significant correlation (p=0.855; r=0.035) was found between titer widal and lymphocyte counts. However, a significant negative correlation (p=0.023; r=-0.413) existed between titer widal and neutrophil counts, suggesting decreased neutrophil counts with higher titer widal.
