English is a universal language that is very much needed today. Students need reading and writing skills above all else to improve their English proficiency. Students should possess these literacy skills from the beginning of their education. The method used is a qualitative method by conducting classroom observations and student interviews with participants. From the results of observations and interviews, it was found that learning media, learning motivation and students' low reading ability were the main reasons for the obstruction of their English learning in class. Thus, it can be concluded that providing methods and media that follow what students need will improve the process of learning English in elementary school students. The implication of the findings of this article is expected to make English learning fun for students and help them improve their reading skills by utilizing picture books as learning media.
