Abstract

Waste oil pollution negatively impacts the environment, leading to a decline in environmental quality, particularly evidenced by the detrimental effects on aquatic organisms. Such impacts significantly affect global fishermen productivity. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) sets the maximum permissible waste oil concentration for disposal at 15 ppm (Part Per Million). This study aims to develop and implement an onboard oil-water separator monitoring system. The system serves as a separator between seawater and oil derived from the ship's engine room, which is stored in a tank. The separation process employs a servo valve, acting as an automatic faucet, controlled by an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller using a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) sensor. Additionally, a Total Dissolve Solid (TDS) sensor and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) function as indicators and monitors for the process. The system's implementation ensures that the discharged water remains below the 15 ppm threshold.
