. This article examines the meaning of longing in the lyrics of the song "ruang rindu" by Sabrang Mowo Damar Panuluh using Ferdinand De Saussure's semiotic theory. In Ferdinand De Saussure's semiotic theory, the main focus in his study is on the meaning of denotation, and connotation. To be able to know the meaning of longing in this song, Ferdinand De Saussure's theory is very relevant and systematic and the method used is imperative qualitative method with data collection in the form of secondary and primary data, secondary data obtained from various relevant sources, primary data obtained from the lyrics of the song "Ruang Rindu" by Sabrang Mowo Damar Panuluh. The conclusion obtained is that the songwriter expresses his heart through music media to convey the message of longing to be understood by people who hear the song, the expression of longing uses metaphorical language but is easy to understand.
