Abstract

This study aims to determine science literacy abilities of class VIII students at SMP Cendekia Sidoarjo. This research is a non-experimental quantitative research using survey methods and descriptive statistical analysis techniques. Total population and sample in this study were 90 students taken from entire population. Data collection techniques were obtained by administering instruments consisting of scientific literacy test questions. Conclusion from the study that low literacy skills can be influenced by various factors including interest in reading students who are still low, evaluation tools that have not led to development of science literacy. Another factor that causes the low science literacy of Indonesian students based on PISA research is that Indonesian students have not been trained in solving questions with characteristics like PISA questions. In addition, background factors, interests, learning intensity, and students' attitudes towards science also contributed to the low achievement of students' scientific literacy.
