Abstract

This study aims to describe the difficulty of beginning reading with dyslexia. This research is a case study research on fourth grade students with dyslexia at SDN Petungasri 1. Data collection techniques used were interviews, observations, and tests related to initial reading ability. Data analysis techniques were carried out through several stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data display and conclusions. Based on the results of the study, dyslexia students have difficulty identifying difficult words and basic words, interpreting words, understanding reading content, and having difficulty answering questions. The inability to master reading content in students with dyslexia is due to interest and attention as well as central nervous disorders which cause low reading ability which has an impact on assignment or understanding of words in reading. So educators have an important role to develop early reading skills.
