The aim of this study is to determine the effect of cartoon movie as a learning media in teaching monologue to improve speaking ability. In the research, the pretest-tretament-posttest design of the pre experimental study model was used. In the classroom where students are present, cartoon movie with the title is ”Ponyo” supported education was applied and the current program-based teaching method in the class. The Ponyo cartoon is an interactive and cultured Japanese cartoon with the teen imagination theme. The pre-experimental group consisted of 29 students of B class. In order to determine the validity and reliability of the achievement test used in the study, teacher apply monologue technique in this study. The results also showed that students had favorable opinions of the cartoon movie media. However, the results indicated that cartoons had improve student speaking ability at MTs AL-Ihsan Kalijareng 8B class but not significant.
